Residential Recycling Service
The City provides a residential blue box recycling program. Collection and processing services are provided through a contract with Eastman Recycling Services, www.envisioncl.com. The curbside blue box collection service operates on a five day cycle and coincides with the City's residential trash collection schedule.
Depots for the collection of recyclable materials are also available at the Steinbach Landfill, 104 Hanover Road E.
Materials acceptable for recycling include:
- newspaper/flyers
- magazines
- telephone directories
- boxboard (i.e. cereal boxes)
- pizza boxes (without food or excessive grease inside)
- gable top cartons (i.e. milk cartons)
- aseptic containers (i.e. juice boxes)
- steel cans (i.e. soup cans)
- aluminum cans
- plastic (#1, #2, #4, #5, and #7)
- glass containers/jars
- cardboard
Compostable/organic materials should not be be placed in your blue box. They can be brought to the landfill for composting.
Please rinse out your containers before placing them in the blue box.
Materials that can not be recycled in our area include styrofoam, aluminum foil, and plastic bags because there are no facilities nearby that recycle these products. Gift wrap can not be recycled either because it is made from paper that has already been recycled numerous times and can not withstand the recycling process again.
For more information, download the City of Steinbach Waste Reduction Program brochure.

Eco Centre and Oil Recycling Day
The next Oil Recycling Day is set for Wednesday, June 8, 2011, 11am - 2pm.
Bring your used oil to the Eco Centre at the Steinbach Landfill (104 Hanover Rd. E.) and receive new oil FREE! For every 5L of used oil, receive a coupon to pick up 1L of Co-op 5W-30 oil FREE! (Maximum of 12L free). Also, enjoy a hot dog and drink for $2.
We all need to chip in and do our part to create a sustainable environment. Here’s one way you can help!
Used oil, used oil filters, and used plastic oil containers need to be disposed of properly so they can be recycled into useful products instead of threatening our environment. Recycle your used oil, free of charge, at the Steinbach Eco Centre, located at the Steinbach Landfill site.
For more information about the Steinbach Eco-Centre or Oil Recycling Day, please e-mail ewallman@steinbach.ca or call (204) 346-6500.
Oil Recycling Day is an annual event in June, held to promote the network of Eco Centres and encourage Steinbach and area residents to safely dispose of used oil, used oil filters and containers. This event is hosted by the Manitoba Association for Resource Recovery Corporation (MARRC).
A reminder that used oil and tires can be recycled year round at the Steinbach Landfill's Eco Centre, located at 104 Hanover Road East.
