City of Steinbach

Another year has flown by, bringing several significant changes in Steinbach. As I reflect on the progress made in 2011, a number of large projects come to mind. Upgrades were made to several recreational facilities, including the T.G. Smith Arena and the City’s tennis courts. Our active transportation program saw the installation of more road signage and more sharrows painted on several of our roadways to promote and encourage safe bicycling in our community. The Wastewater Treatment Facility Expansion, Steinbach’s largest capital project to date, was completed and the Steinbach Landfill also underwent an extensive expansion to prolong the life of the Landfill so it can serve our residents and the region for years to come. As well, the City issued its second highest number of building permits in 2012 at the highest monetary value in the City’s history. This type of growth and infrastructure renewal are what keep our economy strong and Steinbach residents safe and prosperous.

Events in the city are also increasing in both reputation and size. This past year, Steinbach held its third Summer in the City Festival and it was a huge success! From entertainment for the kids and diverse cultural food fare to an artisans market, midway, and featured performances by Trooper and George Canyon, the Festival was enjoyed by all. The third annual Summer in the City Festival in June 2012 will no doubt provide another weekend full of music – featuring Doc Walker this year! – street performances, food, handmade wares, and fun and I look forward to again taking part in this celebration of Steinbach life.

2012 holds the promise of more great things for Steinbach and its residents. Ground has already been broken for an expansion of the Jake Epp Library and other plans are in the works to improve recreation facilities and maintain first-rate infrastructure systems. I encourage you to take part in shaping our community. Council and City staff look forward to hearing from residents to ensure that we give the best service possible to our community. We value your ideas and suggestions for making Steinbach an incredible place to live. Together we can continue to build a city of excellence.

On behalf of all of Steinbach Council and City staff, I would like to wish you and your family all the best in 2012.
